About us

Who we are

EPA Victoria (EPA) is an independent statutory authority under the Environment Protection Act 2017. The Act defines EPA’s powers, duties and functions, and provides a framework for the prevention and control of air, land and water pollution, industrial noise and waste.

We work closely with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Sustainability Victoria (SV), to develop environment protection policy and legislation and to deliver programs that support environmental protection.

Our job is to keep Victoria prosperous and livable by preventing and reducing harm from pollution and waste. We do this in several ways, including by holding polluters to account, and helping people to understand, own and address their harmful impacts on the environment. You can read more about what we do here.

EPA Victoria is proud to be a part of White Ribbon Australia’s Workplace Accreditation Program, a world-first program that provides organisations with the tools to prevent or respond to incidents of violence, whether they occur inside or outside the workplace.
