Emergency services respond to Harrietville landslide

EPA Victoria advises emergency services are responding after a landslide at the
Sambas Mine near Harrietville occurred Wednesday February 27, 2013.

The landslide has impacted an area in the mine built to contain chemicals
however there is no evidence of a spill. The risk to the community and
environment remains low.

Management of the incident remains focused on ensuring the chemicals stay
within the containment area.

The mine is located close to the west branch of the Ovens River. There is
currently no evidence of any impacts to this waterway. EPA will monitor the
river.

North East Water Authority has issued water quality alerts for the Ovens River
following recent fire and heavy rain.

EPA is working with other emergency response agencies to ensure the correct
clean-up procedures are followed.
