EPA is no longer investigating illegal dumping of contaminated soil at Black Hill, Victoria.
In June, Visionstream as a subcontractor to NBN Co. removed 250 cubic metres of soil from the site and delivered it to landfill.
The company has provided to EPA the results of soil sampling undertaken by an independent nationally accredited laboratory which confirm the main contaminant as benzo(a)pyrene, a compound found in coal and tar material.
Asbestos wasn’t found in the soil samples, but was found contained in fragments of cement sheeting.
The company has provided evidence that the soil was handled as Category B contaminated waste as required under EPA regulations, transported on a permitted vehicle and disposed to a licenced landfill.
EPA encourages the community to report illegal dumping on 1300 EPA Vic (1300 372 842).
