EPA Victoria has today released the Landfills Exempt from Licensing guideline. EPA worked with local councils and regional waste management groups to develop the guideline which covers the siting, design, management, rehabilitation and aftercare of landfills exempt from licensing (those that serve a population of less than 5,000 people).
Thirty-six landfills exempt from licensing operate in Victoria. This guideline can be used by operators of those landfills to demonstrate compliance with the Waste Management Policy and it also provides guidance for works approval applicants for landfill sites exempt from licensing
The guideline is consistent with Getting Full Value – The Victorian Waste and Resource Recovery Policy (GFV) and fulfils Clause 17(1)(b) of the Victorian Waste Management Policy (Sitting, Design and Management of Landfills) 2004.
