EPA Victoria has today released its Annual Compliance Plan 2013-2014 mid-year report with some great results and a significant improvement on last year..
In the six months to December 31 2013, EPA officers inspected 1448 sites to check duty holders were complying with conditions of their EPA issued approval or licence condition and responding to pollution reports, as well as proactively working on state-wide and local strategies.
As a result of these inspections officers issued 301 remedial notices including Clean Up Notices and Pollution Abatement Notices. This is an increase of over 50% on the same period last year.
Further highlights from report (inclusive):
- EPA’s Illegal Dumping StrikeForce has already reached their target of 52 notices issued, serving 55
- EPA officers conducted 690 inspections related to pollution reports from the public, a 12% increase on the same period in 2012
- EPA officers inspected 282 licensed sites, well on track to achieving the annual target of 300 sites
- Of the 282 sites inspected, nearly 60% were assessed as fully compliant with their licences
- EPA staff have inspected 32 former landfills (target 30) and issued 11 new notices to support the management of these sites
- EPA issued 12 official warnings to non-compliant businesses and 15 Penalty Infringement Notices (PINs) of up to $7,000 each.
