A one-stop-shop in central Morwell has been stocked with a host of supplies and information to help residents clean up the ash left by the Hazelwood mine fire.

Deputy Premier Peter Ryan joined Member for Morwell and Minister for Energy and Resources and Small Business Russell Northe in Morwell today to open the shopfront in Hazelwood Road, funded by the Victorian Coalition Government.

Mr Ryan encouraged residents to take advantage of the clean-up equipment, free voucher for laundry and car cleaning, and the range of other expert advice and support now available at the single central location.

“Residents needing special assistance can book a professional clean of their property and pick up a range of information regarding the clean-up,” Mr Ryan said.

“Residents doing their own cleaning will also be able to book a range of equipment to help them remove ash from their homes, including high-efficiency HEPA grade filter vacuums.”

Mr Northe said the new shopfront was an important plank of the Coalition Government’s $2 million community assistance package to help get Morwell residents back on their feet.

“Morwell residents face a big cleaning challenge in the aftermath of the fire,” Mr Northe said

“With the fire finally under control and recovery now under way, bringing together all equipment and services under the one roof will make the big clean up as easy as possible.”

Mr Northe also thanked the Latrobe City Council for its important role in coordinating both the domestic and business clean-up support.

He said residents wanting further information on the clean-up package should contact council on 1800 017 777 or online at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au
