In Bendigo around 3,000 wheelie bins of recyclables will diverted from landfill each year
Coalition Government building a better Victorian environment
Recycling will now be easier in regional and rural Victoria as part of the Victorian Coalition Government’s $815,000 initiative that will see recycling bins introduced at 22 new sites across Victoria.
Visiting Lake Weeroona in Bendigo, one of the 22 grant recipients, Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith today announced that the funding will help Victorians do the right thing and recycle when out and about.
"The City of Greater Bendigo will see recycling bins introduced in 45 areas, diverting around 29 tonnes of recyclables from landfill each year, equivalent to around 3,000 wheelie bins," Mr Smith said.
"These Regional Public Place Recycling Grants are designed to see new recycling bins and other infrastructure introduced to remove waste from landfills and reduce unsightly litter.
"This is another important initiative by the Victorian Coalition Government that will help create a safer and healthier environment for all Victorians.
"Through the Coalition Government’s funding, regional councils, waste management groups and communities will be able to implement initiatives that increase the rate of recycling in public places, as well as educate the local community.
"This is a great initiative that will see more accessible and well-maintained recycling bins at 22 new sites, making it even easier for more Victorians to do the right thing and contribute to a more liveable state."
The 2013 Regional Public Place Recycling grants are part of the Coalition Government’s Victorian Litter Strategy 2012-14 that adopts a partnership approach, underpinned by three critical elements for litter prevention success – education, infrastructure and enforcement.
