The Victorian Government has announced an Interim Waste Management Policy (IWMP) to reduce fire risks and further promote tyre recycling in Victoria.
The policy makes it clear what the rules are in terms of tyre stockpiling, and what measures operators must take to reduce their fire risk.
EPA Victoria will be inspecting premises that store waste tyres and have the power to issue notices to ensure compliance with the Policy.

The IWMP and guidelines have been a big effort between EPA, Sustainability Victoria, Department of Environment and Primary Industries, MFB, CFA and the Fire Services Commissioner.
A regulatory impact assessment is also being developed to assess the best regulatory options for ensuring the ongoing safe and appropriate storage and management of waste tyres in Victoria.
