EPA Victoria Open House addressing odour issues in the North East

7 May 2014

EPA Victoria invites the community to join Chairman Cheryl Batagol, Director Corporate Services Matt Vincent, Regional Manager North East Clare Kiely and EPA staff at an open house event to update residents on progress to improve odour issues in Killara and Baranduda.

EPA Manager North East Clare Kiely said that EPA staff will be available to address locals’ directly and answer any questions they may have.

“EPA’s North East region has listened to the community’s concerns and has been working hard to ensure industry implement process improvements to reduce the risks of odour impacting the local community,” she said.

“This is the third consultation forum on this issue and it is part of our ongoing commitment to communicate broadly with the effected community.”

On 30 September 2013 EPA issued a remedial notice to Greenchip Recycling and as a result they are constructing a dewatering facility on site and have plans for future developments to reduce odour emissions.

“To monitor their development we have been undertaking weekly inspections and we are working collaboratively with North East Water and Wodonga City Council.

“We’ll all be available at the open house, here together and here to listen and advise. Those wishing to attend can stop by for ten minutes or stay for the whole session.”

Light refreshments will be served.
