Two Hobsons Bay residents have been recognised by EPA for their help protecting and enhancing the local environment.
Geoff Mitchelmore and Bert Boere are longstanding campaigners for improving odour and dust issues associated with the Brooklyn Industrial Area.
Their efforts were acknowledged by EPA Metro Region Manager Richard Marks during an Open House information session for residents earlier this year.
“Protecting the environment is a job for EPA, the community, businesses and other organisations," Mr Marks said.
“Both Geoff and Bert are great advocates for working collaboratively to improve their local environment and ensuring everyone is contributing to making Hobsons Bay a great place to live and work.
“We hope more people become environmental citizens like Geoff and Bert and actively contribute to helping protect and improve their local environment.”
"A lot of work has taken place to tackle odour and dust issues in Brooklyn and surrounding suburbs.
"This year EPA received the lowest number of odour complaints for the Brooklyn area since records begin in 1996.
“This is an amazing result and we hope to continue building on this success with the help of the local community and businesses."
In giving the award, Mr Marks observed that both Mr Mitchelmore and Mr Boere were well known for their community work.
"Both are tireless agents for positive change in Brooklyn, Altona and surrounds. Mr Mitchelmore through his work with the Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek while Mr Boere is president of the Brooklyn Residents Action Group," Mr Marks said.
EPA Metro Region includes a large chunk of metropolitan Melbourne, covering 21 local government councils from Werribee in the South West around to the Yarra Ranges in the north eastern urban fringe.
