Boral required to address odour issues

28 May 2014

EPA Victoria has issued a Pollution Abatement Notice (PAN) to Boral regarding odour and gas issues at its Ravenhall landfill.

An EPA compliance inspection on 12 May 2014 found odour emissions were detectable from a number of gas wells at the landfill.

The notice issued to Boral on 21 May 2014 requires the company reduce landfill gas emissions by reinstating, replacing or repairing landfill gas transmission pipework and increasing the efficiency of its gas extraction systems.

Boral is required to comply with the notice requirements by 19 June 2014.

If found guilty of contravening the requirements of the PAN, the company may be ordered to pay fines of up to $300,000, with additional penalties of $150,000 for each day the offence continues.
