The Environment Protection Authority has welcomed a new regional manager to Victoria’s Gippsland region.
Based in Traralgon, Emily Sanders will oversee environmental regulation through compliance and enforcement activity and stakeholder engagement across the region, which takes in the area between Longwarry and Mallacoota including the Latrobe Valley and Phillip Island.
Ms Sanders has a strong regulatory and law enforcement background and has previously practiced as a solicitor for the State Government.
She joins EPA from the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation where she was the manager of Strategy and Data. She has also managed policy and legislation teams in the Department of Justice working in road safety and supporting the Sheriff of Victoria.
Ms Sanders said she looked forward to developing partnerships with the local community and other stakeholders to help reduce environmental risks.
“Effective environmental regulation is important and I’m excited to be able to contribute to this alongside dedicated and skilled EPA staff and our stakeholders,” she said.
“Strong partnerships are essential in improving environmental outcomes and will help to ensure we are tackling the region’s highest priorities.”
EPA’s Director of Environmental Regulation, Liz Radcliffe, welcomed Ms Sanders to the new role.
“Emily’s strong regulatory background and commitment to getting to know the key stakeholders within the region will ensure EPA continues to deliver on its vision of a healthy environment that supports livability and prosperity within the region,” she said.
