The Environment Protection Authority has welcomed a new regional manager to Victoria’s South West region.

Based in Geelong, Jason Young will oversee environmental regulation through compliance and enforcement activity and stakeholder engagement across the region, which takes in Warrnambool, Greater Geelong, Ararat, Glenelg and Southern Grampians.

Mr Young said he looked forward to developing partnerships with the local community and other stakeholders to help reduce environmental risks.

“It’s an exciting and challenging opportunity to take up this position as it allows me to positively contribute back to society, something I’ve been fortunate enough to do in various roles over the years,” he said.

“I’m also very fortunate to be surrounded by passionate and skilled staff at EPA committed to improving environmental outcomes. I look forward to working with them and the local community to deal with any past, current and future issues.”

Mr Young joins EPA from Surf Coast Shire Council in Torquay where he was the Manager of Governance and Risk. He has a strong background in regulatory compliance having worked in this field in local, state and federal government.

His early career was spent as a regulator at employers including the Australian Securities & Investments Commission, the State Revenue Office and the Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate. He also worked as a police officer in Victoria and Queensland.

EPA’s Director of Environmental Regulation, Liz Radcliffe, welcomed Mr Young to the role.

“Jason is well known to many within local government in the region. Combined with his strong regulatory background, it will ensure EPA continues to deliver on its vision of a healthy environment that supports livability and prosperity within the region.”
