Environment Protection Authority Victoria supports a better environment for all, its CEO, Nial Finegan said today as part of White Ribbon Day – a male-led campaign to eliminate all violence against women.
Mr Finegan joined other men at EPA today to take the White Ribbon Day oath to 'Never commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women' at an awareness raising morning tea this morning.
Speaking at the event, Mr Finegan said White Ribbon Day was about making a personal commitment.
“It’s about men stepping up together and saying we won’t be silent, and it’s about influencing others to do the same,” he said.
“We strive to create a good environment but there’s no point of having all this if you’re not safe in your own home.”
EPA’s regional offices also held events to help raise awareness of the campaign.
“I’m very proud that across all the EPA offices this morning there was a great turnout amongst staff. The men were supported in equal numbers by their female colleagues which underscores the importance of the White Ribbon Campaign.”
White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male-led campaign to end men’s violence against women.
The campaign works through primary prevention initiatives involving awareness raising and education, and programs with youth, schools, workplaces and across the broader community.
