Two new air monitoring stations in the Latrobe Valley are now operational allowing Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) to provide up-to-date, online information to residents of Moe and Churchill.
The new sites bring the number of stations in the Latrobe Valley providing online data to five, and complement the existing network and information already provided to the communities of Morwell and Traralgon.
EPA Chief Executive Officer Nial Finegan said EPA had a long history of monitoring air quality in the Latrobe Valley and was committed to supplying data to residents in a consistent, accurate and easily understood form.
“EPA is delighted that the new stations will build upon our existing sites and allow us to provide quality data to the community in the Latrobe Valley,” Mr Finegan said.
“The new online data will help provide assurance to the community that air quality across the Valley is being monitored and reported to them in real time via EPA’s website. The EPA is also working to ensure the online data is understood by all of those who want access it.”
Mr Finegan said EPA was pleased to have worked with Latrobe City Council, who allowed EPA to site its equipment on the land and enable it to provide air quality data to the community.
