EPA follows up on potential asbestos contamination

10 Apr 2015

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) visited a Strathmerton site today following an allegation that demolition and construction waste was being buried at the premises. During the inspection, EPA officers found material at the site that  may potentially contain asbestos.

EPA collected samples from the 3.4 hectare site this afternoon and will send them off for analysis to determine whether asbestos is present.

As a precautionary measure, EPA will be requesting the land owner restrict access to the site and undertake immediate dust suppression measures to prevent dust generation.

EPA encourages the community to report pollution on 1800 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC) or by visiting www.epa.vic.gov.au
