No new reports of dead fish at Kilmore Creek have occurred since Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) was first notified of the incident on 13 April.
About 50 dead fish were found at the council reserve, on the corner of White and Piper Streets, Kilmore.
EPA is assisting Goulburn Valley Water with the clean up the dead fish and is continuing its monitoring of the waterway, which includes testing samples of water from the creek. Results are due back shortly.
Recent rainfall has provided the system with a significant flush which has helped improve the creek’s water quality.
Local drinking supplies have not been affected. GVW continue to monitor the waterway. Signs warning the public to avoid contact with the creek and advising animals to be kept away will remain in place until water quality has returned to normal levels.
EPA encourages members of the public to report suspected pollution of the environment to EPA on 1300 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC).
