Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has conducted inspections at three sites in the Geelong region to investigate allegations of the illegal storage, disposal and receipt of industrial waste.
EPA officers took samples of the waste for testing and issued remedial notices to several duty holders requiring them to produce information about the waste, as well as a history of storage and disposal activity.
EPA also issued a separate notice to one of the duty holders ordering it to immediately stop accepting further industrial waste.
Once the results of samples are known, EPA will consider further notices that will ensure that any potential environmental harm is addressed, and appropriate waste management and site clean-up occurs.
EPA will advise the community further once test results are known and would like to stress that there is no immediate risk to the community.
