Penshurst drinking water given all clear

4 Aug 2015

Comprehensive testing of water samples taken last week by Wannon Water has confirmed Penshurst’s treated water supply is free of contamination and safe to drink.

The confirmation follows an announcement last Thursday regarding groundwater contamination at the Country Fire Authority’s (CFA) Penshurst Training Campus.

BACKGROUND

CFA testing had shown groundwater at its Penshurst training site in south-west Victoria contained elevated levels of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs).

CFA has been undertaking targeted testing at all of its regional training grounds in light of contamination that was detected at its Fiskville training site.

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) will continue to work with CFA, Wannon Water and Southern Rural Water to better understand and regulate any impacts on the environment of these chemicals and direction of groundwater flow in the Penshurst area.

If community members have concerns about their drinking water, they should call Wannon Water on 1300 926 666.
