Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has fined Western Region Water Corporation over $7,000 for discharging treated waste water into Jacksons Creek from its Riddells Creek facility that services both Macedon and Riddells Creek townships.
EPA North West Manager Danny Childs said the $7,584 fine followed an EPA inspection of the site that found the corporation had been discharging Class C treated waste water, generally used for agricultural purposes, for about six weeks.
“This is a breach of Western Water’s EPA licence, which states that waste water from the premises must not be discharged to the environment,” Mr Childs said.
“EPA scientists were made aware of the breach and sampling found evidence of changes to the environment downstream but these were shown to have had a low impact on the environment.”
