EPA listens to community concerns

10 Feb 2015

About 60 people attended a community public meeting on 4 February at Smeaton Bowling Club to discuss UniGrain’s environmental performance.

EPA North West Manager Scott Pigdon said the community acknowledged the improvements in UniGrain’s environmental performance and their commitment to continual improvement.

“EPA will continue to monitor the site to ensure environmental compliance,” he said. “There is currently a Pollution Abatement Notice on the site to address recent noise issues.”

Mr Pigdon said EPA would continue to accept any pollution reports about the company and encouraged the community to report pollution to EPA on 1300 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC) or by visiting www.epa.vic.gov.au

Local council and the Department of Health and Human Services were also in attendance to explain their roles and responsibilities.
