Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is aware of a large fish death incident at Lake Cooper, Corop.
EPA officers have visited the site and seen over 1000 large dead fish (non-native) scattered across a significant area.
The fish are currently decomposing and/or being fed upon by birds.
The lake itself is very shallow and highly saline – no fish were observed in the water. It is believed the lake will run dry, through natural causes, in the near future.
There are currently no major environmental issues at the site; however a clean-up of the fish would cause significant damage to the lake’s floor.
There could be odour generated in the near future for a few days.
