EPA public inquiry now underway

23 Jul 2015

A major public inquiry into Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) commenced on 1 June 2015.

The inquiry will look closely at EPA to establish how the government can develop the Authority to ensure it can protect public health, while protecting our precious Victorian environment for future generations.

The Hon Lisa Neville MP, Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water has appointed a three person Ministerial Advisory Committee (MAC) to undertake an independent public inquiry into the EPA, to ensure the protection of Victoria’s environment into the future. The MAC will operate from 1 June and provide a written report to the Minister by 31 March 2016.

The Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water will publicly release the report and a response to its findings and recommendations on behalf of the Victorian Government in mid-2016.

Community consultation, discussion paper and further information

The MAC is keen to seek the views of Victorians through a broad-scale public consultation process. A Secretariat has been established to support the MAC and work is underway to plan for a range of opportunities for community and industry engagement and input into the inquiry.

The MAC EPA Inquiry website hosts information about the inquiry, its processes, opportunities to participate, news and updates.

It is anticipated that a Discussion Paper will be published in mid-August followed by a comprehensive state-wide public consultation process.
