EPA investigates oily sheen in Mallacoota

26 Jun 2015

Following a report of an oily sheen on Mullet Creek, a tributary to the Mallacoota Inlet, Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has begun investigating the alleged illegal dumping of what appears to be diesel oil into a stormwater drain.

EPA has been advised that East Gippsland Shire Council officers have contained and collected a significant quantity of contaminant within the storm water system. To further mitigate the risk of contaminant entering the Inlet, Gippsland Ports will deploy mobile oil spill containment equipment in Mullet Creek.

EPA believes the spill is unlikely to impact on Mallacoota Inlet.
