Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is investigating an Energy Australia Yallourn incident where ash slurry was discharged into the Morwell River.
EPA was advised by Energy Australia Yallourn that a leak happened on February 20 after work on an ash line was carried out.
EPA officers immediately attended and inspected the site, took samples of the spilled waste and have since launched an investigation into the incident.
Energy Australia Yallourn committed to cleaning up and fixing the cause of the issue.
A further inspection of the site by EPA on 5 March determined that the ash line was back in operation and clean-up activities complete.
EPA’s investigation will examine whether a breach of Energy Australia Yallourn’s licence or the Environment Protection Act has occurred, and this may result in enforcement action.
