EPA investigating red dust origin

20 Mar 2015

Red dust has fallen widely on homes and cars around Victoria, with comments to Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) from Melbourne city to Gippsland.

EPA advises that the fallout is a natural phenomenon associated with winds carrying dust from agricultural activities and is not caused by industrial pollution sources.

The red dust tends to be washed out of the air by rain and is then left on cars, roofs and gutters. EPA has taken samples of the dust.

Of course fallout can also indicate pollution from industries and EPA relies on the public to report pollution so that we can investigate quickly and eliminate sources.

Report pollution to EPA on 1300 372 842.
