Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has received numerous reports of an odour around the Morwell area.
Following an investigation by EPA officers, the source of the odour has been identified as chicken manure, which was applied as fertiliser by a local farmer.
The manure was applied yesterday as rain was forecast, but never eventuated.
EPA has spoken with the farmer to ensure the best available management practices are being followed to minimise odour and anticipates the odour will reduce significantly as weather conditions change over the next few hours.
EPA asks that the public continue to report pollution to EPA on 1300 372 842.
