New guidelines increase transparency around EPA's decision making process

20 May 2015

New guidelines explaining the Section 30A approvals process have increased certainty and transparency around Environment Protection Authority Victoria’s (EPA) decision making process.

Section 30A approvals is an overriding provision of the Environment Protection Act under which  EPA can authorise discharges, emissions, storage, treatment, disposal and handling of waste in emergencies and other temporary situations that would otherwise be an offence under the Act.

The new guidelines include:

  • how and when to apply for an approval under Section 30A of the Act,
  • the information that EPA requires in support of an application,
  • the key principles EPA will consider when assessing an application for a 30A approval,
  • a clear outline of when EPA will and will not issue a 30A approval,
  • application forms.

Visit EPA's website for further information and to view the guidelines and application forms
