Treated water from Hazelwood spill to be released to Bennett's Creek

18 Oct 2015

EnergyBrix has advised Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) it will discharge treated water from its treatment pond into Bennett's Creek this weekend or early next week. Rain has been forecast and releasing this treated water will reduce the risk of untreated waste water being released from its system.

The treated water is a mixture of EnergyBrix waste water and some of the water from the spill last Tuesday from Hazelwood power station's ashing system. Testing has confirmed the water is within allowable EPA limits for discharge into Bennett's Creek. The  discharge of this water is also permitted within EnergyBrix's EPA licence.

Water authorities have been advised and no concerns have been identified to downstream users.
