EPA to attend community waste forum

20 Oct 2015

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) will join local waste operators and Kingston City Council at a community forum this evening to inform local residents on the latest developments at the Clayton and Dingley landfill precinct.

EPA Southern Metro Acting Manager Marleen Mathias said EPA had a long history of working with waste operators, the council and local residents in working to address odour issues in the area.

“EPA fully appreciates the concerns and frustrations of residents who live near the Clayton South precinct – odour can be invasive, unpredictable and its origins difficult to determine,” Ms Mathias said.

“We are actively working with the community to ensure their views are heard and that they are kept up to date with all developments.

“Tonight’s Clayton and Dingley Waste forum, led by local waste operators and the council, will be held at 6pm at the Balook Learning Centre, 88 Rosebank Ave, Clayton South. Residents will be able to hear about the latest works happening at the precinct and ask any questions they may have.

“Last month, EPA fined the City of Boroondara more than $7500 for breaching a condition of its licence to control gas emission levels at the Clayton Regional Landfill site after receiving calls from members of the public complaining of offensive odour.

“We encourage the community to continue reporting odour issues to EPA – local residents are our eyes and, in this case, our noses on the ground, so we can hold operators to account if compliance is not achieved.”

Members of the community can contact EPA on 1300 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC).
