Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has requested Yarra Valley Stock Removers to provide additional information on its works approval application to establish a knackery in Jindivick.
The formal request, made on 23 September 2015 under Section 22(1) of the Environment Protection Act 1970, requires Yarra Valley Stock Removers to provide extra information on how it will manage its wastewater treatment system.
“EPA made the request for extra information following a review of the application, public submissions and an independent facilitator’s report summarising the outcomes of a Section 20B community conference held on 3 September,” EPA’s Development Assessments Manager Tim Faragher said.
“A key concern raised at the community conference related to the adequacy of the proposed wastewater treatment system and reuse area and potential pollution to the nearby creek.”
The request for extra information includes:
- the provision of a redesigned wastewater treatment system and plan to demonstrate how the proposed system will meet the requirements specified in EPA’s reclaimed water guidelines, and
- a land capability assessment for the proposed irrigation area, incorporating control measures to prevent run off of irrigation water entering the local creek, which flows into Tarago River.
“The additional information provided will be considered as part of EPA’s assessment of the application,” Mr Faragher said.
“This is in addition to the independent facilitator’s report, public submissions and the expert views of specialist staff at referral agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Baw Baw Shire Council.”
EPA’s four-month assessment period to assess the application will be on-hold until the required information is received.
