EPA proposes amendments to Victorian waste regulations

19 Apr 2016

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is committed to delivering clean air, safe land, healthy water and minimal disturbance from noise and odour outcomes for the environment.

EPA is proposing amendments to the Environment Protection (Industrial Waste Resource) Regulations 2009.

These regulations guide the sustainable management of prescribed industrial waste (PIW), and proposed changes are designed to ensure clarity and certainty for affected industries.

Two types of amendments are proposed:

  1. Clarify controls that regulate when PIW can be used as a resource (Beneficial Reuse). These proposed amendments are outlined in publication 1615, Proposed amendments to beneficial reuse provisions in the Environment Protection (Industrial Waste Resource) Regulations.
  2. Incorporate waste codes (and other technical codes) into the Regulations. These changes are outlined in publication 1614, Proposed amendments to waste transport certificate provisions in the Environment Protection (Industrial Waste Resource) Regulations.

EPA has also produced new guidelines titled Beneficial Reuse, to clearly define the Beneficial Reuse mechanisms.
