Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has launched a full investigation into a Tottenham site where a tyre fire occurred on 13 February.
The fire was managed by Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB), and was quickly controlled.
At 6.29 am, the incident was declared All Clear by MFB. The site at 552 Geelong Road, Tottenham is now under the control of Victoria Police.
MFB gave advice to the local community about avoiding smoke. There are no ongoing issues relating to smoke or water used for controlling the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
EPA representatives have visited the site, including Chief Executive Officer Nial Finegan.
There is a large number of tyres on the site and EPA has commenced a full investigation. EPA officers will investigate whether any breaches of the Environment Protection Act 1970 have occurred.
The site is a rubber recycling plant, manufacturing rubber products. The fire occurred in a pile of tyres approximately 10 x 25 x 2 metres in size, in which there was a mixed array of tyres including motor bike tyres and tractor tyres.
