Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) staff are today inspecting the Woolshed Gorge for contamination possibly caused by fire water and residues from the IGA supermarket fire that occurred in Beechworth last weekend.
EPA has taken samples from the Woolshed Gorge for analysis and will inform the community as soon as the results are available.
The Woolshed Gorge site has been closed to the public today and will remain closed to the public until 24 January.
Immediate downstream users of the water have also been informed.
Health, environment and emergency agencies are working together to manage the issue.
