Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has this week published its annual plan highlighting its ongoing commitment to working with community and industry to protect Victoria’s environment.
EPA CEO Nial Finegan said in 2016/17, the authority would continue to deliver on four priority areas:
- Protect the environment for future generations
- Improve the effectiveness of EPA’s regulatory activities
- Improve confidence in EPA as the environmental regulator
- Improve the experience people have of EPA
“EPA’s task is to deliver real public value today while preparing for tomorrow’s challenges. We accept this responsibility wholeheartedly and look forward to building an EPA for the future,” he said.
“EPA also looks forward to continue its work with the community on environmental issues.
“Today’s community want to be part of the solution and many are willing to help us prevent, manage and monitor issues in their regions and shape their environment.
“This provides EPA with valuable opportunities to influence environmental outcomes through prevention, early detection and monitoring.”
Mr Finegan said the plan would be adapted as required once EPA received the Victorian Government’s response to the Ministerial Advisory Committee’s Independent Inquiry into EPA, in which it made 48 recommendations.
“EPA looks forward to receiving the Victorian Government’s response to the Inquiry report and to implementing the change that will position it to address the challenges of the future and meet community, industry and government expectations.”
