Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has charged three Melbourne-based companies and their directors following an investigation into the alleged illegal dumping of industrial waste at a car park site in Tullamarine.
EPA alleges that Patchwood Holdings Pty Ltd (Patchwood) permitted the illegal dumping of industrial waste, including bricks and concrete, between November 2013 and October 2014. The waste was allegedly deposited on land controlled by Patchwood located at 6 Prima Court, Tullamarine.
Patchwood and its director face two charges under the Environment Protection Act 1970 for allegedly permitting the deposit of industrial waste at a place not licensed to accept it and for failing to comply with a Clean-Up Notice issued by EPA in January 2015.
EPA has also charged Express Demolition & Excavation Pty Ltd and its directors with allegedly depositing industrial waste at a site not licensed to accept waste of that kind.
A third company, Monark Industries Pty Ltd, and its director are charged with allegedly failing to comply with a requirement made by an EPA authorised officer.
EPA’s charges are a result of work undertaken by its Illegal Dumping Strikeforce Program. This program aims to reduce large scale dumping of industrial waste, with a focus on increasing compliance among those generating and transporting industrial waste through building, excavation and demolition activities.
Both matters are listed for mention in the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on 25 August 2016.
As these matters are now before the court and EPA’s investigation is continuing, EPA will make no further comment at this time.
