Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is inviting community members to attend drop-in information sessions this month to discuss Landfill Operations’ (Cleanaway) proposal to extend its Melbourne Regional Landfill at Ravenhall.
The proposal is for the extension to the existing landfill to continue receiving the same waste types, including the disposal of municipal solid waste, ‘Category C’ contaminated soil and solid inert waste within part of the quarry void resulting from future Boral quarrying operations.
EPA Development Assessments Manager, Tim Faragher said Landfill Operations’ proposal would need both planning permit approval and works approval.
“Community members are invited to drop in at any time and view information about the proposal, the joint process for the planning permit and works approval applications and how to get involved,” he said.
“Officers from EPA and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) will be at the sessions to help people to understand the processes.”
“Those wishing to comment on the works approval application and/or the planning permit applications are invited to make a written submission or objection by 5.00pm on Friday 15 July 2016.”
“The Minister for Planning has called in the planning permit application lodged by Landfill Operations to Melton City Council. The call-in enables the works approval and planning permit to be considered in parallel.”
“An independent planning panel will consider all submissions in relation to the works approval and planning permit.
“Following the panel’s report, the Minister for Planning will make a decision on the planning permit application and EPA will make a decision on the works approval application.”
There will be two public open house information sessions between 11am-4pm on Sunday 19th June and 2-8pm on Monday 20th June, 2016 at WestWaters Hotel & Entertainment Complex, 10-20 Lake Street, Caroline Springs, 3023.
