EPA to hold further consultation on Iluka works approval

24 Mar 2016

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) will hold a second round of community consultation after it received additional information from Iluka Resources to support its works approval application to continue the disposal of waste by-products at its Douglas Mine site.

The further information was required by EPA to inform its final decision and will be available for a 21-day community consultation period that will begin on Thursday, 24 March.

The consultation will allow members of the local community, stakeholder groups and key agencies to review the new information and provide comments through submissions to the EPA.

EPA will also hold a public information session from 5pm on 6 April at Balmoral Hall, which will allow the community an opportunity to discuss the additional information.

Representatives from Iluka, EPA and Horsham Rural City Council will be in attendance.

Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC) is responsible for the planning permit application. Iluka Resources has an existing radiation management licence from DHHS that covers the disposal of naturally occurring radioactive material.
