EPA charges Boral over alleged illegal dumping

4 May 2016

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has charged Boral Resources (Vic) Pty Ltd (Boral) following an investigation into alleged illegal dumping at a disused quarry site in Pine Lodge (Cosgrove) in Greater Shepparton.

EPA has charged Boral with three offences under the Environment Protection Act 1970 (EP Act) for allegedly permitting the dumping of industrial waste at a place not licensed to accept it.

Under the EP Act, Victorian quarry sites must have an EPA licence to accept industrial waste or a planning permit from councils to recycle. At the time of the alleged offence dates, EPA alleges Boral did not hold any approval or permit to store and process industrial waste.

The matter is listed for mention in the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 5 May, 2016.

As this matter is now before the court and EPA’s investigation is continuing, EPA will make no further comment at this time.
