EPA receives Princetown development works approval application

18 Oct 2016

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has received a works approval application from Montarosa P/L to develop an eco-tourist facility in Princetown.

EPA Development Assessments Manager Tim Faragher said the company proposed to construct an eco-lodge with 20 rooms and 20 eco-cabins at the site.

“The development would also include a restaurant, lookout structure, office, pool and a day spa,” Mr Faragher said.

Mr Faragher said that the site was not currently connected to a sewer system but the applicant wanted to treat sewage generated by the resort and irrigate the resulting treated wastewater on site.

“The proposal says a wastewater treatment plant would receive wastewater from the rest of the site,” Mr Faragher said.

The works approval application and a council planning permit application will be jointly advertised in the Herald Sun on Wednesday 19 October 2016 and the Warrnambool Standard on 22 October 2016; both applications are open for public comment until 10 November 2016.

Two open house information sessions will be held between 11am and 3pm on Saturday 22 October and Saturday 5 November at the Princetown Tavern, 31 Old Post Office Road, Princetown.

Residents and interested persons are invited to drop-in and view information about the resort development proposal and learn how they can participate in the process. Corangamite Shire Council and EPA will be in attendance.

Works approvals are issued by EPA Victoria under the Environment Protection Act 1970. They are required for industrial and waste management activities that have the potential for significant environmental impact.
