Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) congratulates the three Environmental Protection category finalists in the 2016 Victorian Premier's Sustainability Awards.
EPA Chief Executive Officer, Nial Finegan said the Environmental Protection category recognises leadership, commitment and excellence by an organisation in the protection of the environment.
“EPA has sponsored this category for a number of years and we’re always very impressed by the entrants’ creativity and dedication to achieving sustainability,” Mr Finegan said.
“This year’s finalists are no exception – and we congratulate them and acknowledge their ingenuity and commitment to conserving and protecting Victoria’s environment,” he said.
Finalists in the Environmental Protection category are:
Armstrong Creek Development Corporation and GbLA Landscape Architects – Warralily Creek Corridor Rehabilitation Stages 2A-2F. The rehabilitation and re-construction of 2.8 kilometres of the degraded Armstrong Creek corridor in new Geelong residential community, Warralily, is an exemplar of integrated stormwater management.
Geelong Cemeteries Trust – Moonah Memorial Walk – a carefully planned nature reserve offering unique burial and cremation memorials within a protected coastal woodland.
Moonee Valley City Council – Afton Street Wetland and Stormwater Harvesting Scheme – a wetland/water harvesting development that helps drought-proof their city and sustain a green, healthy environment with sustainability, social and financial benefits.
Now in their 14th year, the Premier's Sustainability Awards continue to promote innovation in sustainability and encourage a broader adoption of these practices by all Victorians.
A winner will be awarded from each of the 10 categories at the awards night on Thursday 20 October at the Plaza Ballroom, Melbourne.
In addition to the category awards, the Hon Daniel Andrews MP, Premier of Victoria, will select two overall winners: the Premier's Regional Recognition Award and the Premier's Recognition Award.
The Premier’s Regional Recognition Award is awarded to a regional finalist who has demonstrated notable sustainability benefits for regional Victoria.
The Premier’s Recognition Award is awarded to one of the winners of the award categories which the Premier believes showcases exemplary innovation in sustainability.
