Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has laid a total of 144 charges against four companies and two individuals under the Environment Protection Act 1970 following a comprehensive investigation into the alleged unlawful transport of prescribed waste.
The charges have been laid against four companies and two directors of those companies.
The companies charged are:
- Industrial Environmental Services Pty Ltd:
- Lobethal Nominees Pty Ltd;
- Hughes Construction Pty Ltd; and
- Hughes Properties Pty Ltd.
The charges allege that the four companies operated businesses, the operation of which included the transport of prescribed waste (lead slag) when permits for this transport were not in force.
The operation of a business which includes the transport of prescribed waste without a permit is a criminal offence under Section 53A of the Environment Protection Act 1970.

As the matter is now before the courts EPA will be making no further comment.
