Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) will hold a second community information session on Monday, 16 January, about additional information it has received from Landfill Operations (Cleanaway) to support its works approval application to extend its landfill at Ravenhall.
EPA issued Cleanaway with a formal notice on 7 September 2016 requesting further information as part of its ongoing assessment of the application. The request included information about existing groundwater conditions, side wall landfill cell designs and the topographic profile of the site after waste had settled.
EPA received the additional information on 9 December 2016 and the community had an opportunity to review and provide any feedback on the extra information by 8 January 2017.
EPA Acting Executive Director of Knowledge, Standards and Assessments, Richard Marks said EPA is holding an information session to meet community interest in the matter.
“Continuing EPA’s commitment to helping the community understand the process, at the session EPA will provide information on why the request for further information was made and how the additional information will assist EPA experts in making any recommendations,” Mr Marks said.
“EPA is currently assessing the information as part of a statutory process,” he said.
“We acknowledge the very short notice being given ahead of this additional community information event but are hopeful that interested members of the community will be able to attend.”
The session will focus on the new information received from Cleanaway to support the works approval application and is independent of the recent Planning Panel Hearing.
Cleanaway’s proposal requires both planning permit approval and works approval to proceed. The Minister for Planning will make a decision on the planning permit application and EPA will make a decision on the works approval application.
The community information session will be held on Monday 16th January 2017, from 7pm until 9pm at The Club, 1312-1322 Western Highway, Caroline Springs.
