EPA fines White Hills company for new illegal dumping matter

5 May 2017

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has fined Hopley Recycling Pty Ltd more than $7,700 for illegally dumping industrial waste at a White Hills site not licensed or permitted to receive it.

EPA Acting North West Manager Danny Childs said EPA launched an investigation into the site following a report to EPA’s pollution hotline.

“EPA officers attended the former White Hills landfill and observed a large amount of industrial waste that contained scrap metal, plastic, broken brick and asphalt-like materials deposited and stockpiled at the site, which is why the fine was handed down,” Mr Childs said.

EPA has also charged Hopley Recycling Pty Ltd (Hopley Recycling) and two of its directors with a combined total of 66 charges for alleged breaches of the Environment Protection Act 1970 that occurred between 2013 and 2015 at a premise adjacent to the White Hills site.

As this particular matter is now before the courts, EPA will make no further comment on it at this time.
