EPA receives application for Girgarre waste to energy facility

2 Aug 2018

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has received a works approval application from Resource Resolution Pty Ltd to establish a commercial food waste processing facility in Girgarre with the capability of producing biogas for energy.

The proposal would process 30,000 tonnes of liquid food waste annually and produce up to 2.4 megawatts of power.

EPA’s assessment of the application will consider a wide range of issues including best practice technology, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions and waste composition. EPA will also assess potential risks to human health and the environment including emissions to air, noise, disposal of digestate, the wastewater treatment system, and operational contingencies.

The full address for the proposed site is 19 Winter Rd, Girgarre, Victoria 3624.

The proposal can be downloaded and viewed at https://engage.vic.gov.au/epa-works-approvals/resource-resolution-wa

Members of the community who may be affected by the granting of the permit or works approval may object or make other submissions no later than 5pm, Wednesday 22 August by emailing works.approvals@epa.vic.gov.au

Works approvals are issued by EPA Victoria under the Environment Protection Act 1970. They are required for industrial and waste management activities that have the potential for significant environmental impact.

An amendment to the current planning permit is required for the proposed uses, and an application is currently under assessment by the Campaspe Shire Council.
