After receiving a works approval application from Paper Australia Pty Ltd (Australian Paper) on 25 May 2018, Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) held a community conference, known as a Section 20B Conference. Australian Paper lodged the works approval application seeking to develop a large-scale energy from waste facility in Maryvale, Latrobe Valley, Victoria.
The meeting, held in Traralgon, Victoria on 25 July 2018 discussed the community’s views on the matter. The independent chairperson’s report from that conference can now be viewed on the Engage Victoria website (www.engage.vic.gov.au) or by clicking here
The report records the issues discussed at the Conference and in 115 submissions and includes the Chair’s recommendations arising from the Conference.
EPA must consider these recommendations in the assessment of the proposal and in deciding the application. A works approval is required from EPA for any waste management activities that have the potential for significant environmental impacts.
