Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) today announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Dr Cathy Wilkinson.
Dr Wilkinson has worked with EPA since 2015. Prior to that Dr Wilkinson held senior leadership roles driving transformation in the planning, water and environment portfolios for various Victorian Government departments, has been a member of Ministerial Advisory Committees, and has provided environmental leadership for a range of high profile international organisations, including the Stockholm Resilience Centre.
Dr Wilkinson will commence in the CEO role on Monday 3 September.
“This is an exciting time for the EPA as we consolidate our leadership team and continue working to become Victoria’s modern, agile environmental regulator,” said Cheryl Batagol, EPA Chairperson.
“Dr Wilkinson’s experience will be invaluable as we continue our transformation process.”
EPA is currently focused on overhauling its systems, services and processes to support implementation of the Environment Protection Act 2017 and Environment Protection Amendment Bill 2018 in 2020.
The legislation will give the EPA enhanced powers and tools to prevent risks to the environment and human health, as well as the ability to issue stronger sanctions and penalties which hold environmental polluters to account. It transforms environmental protection laws to focus on prevention.
“We are committed to continuing our successful engagement with our stakeholders and undertaking extensive consultation throughout this period of change and transformation.” Ms Batagol said.
The Governing Board wishes to thank our former CEO, Nial Finegan, and acknowledge his leadership of the EPA over the past four years and his strong commitment to EPA’s work.
