EPA air quality monitoring supports Victoria's bushfire response

23 Mar 2018

Mobile air quality monitoring stations from Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) are supporting the firefighting and community recovery efforts under way in South West Victoria.

A team from EPA set up monitoring equipment at Camperdown, Terang and Cobden on Tuesday, and the latest air quality information is available online at  www.epa.vic.gov.au/EPAAirWatch

EPA Agency Commander Peter Kerr says the mobile monitoring capacity will be in place for as long as it is needed.

“The monitoring covers invisible hazards such as carbon monoxide as well as visible smoke and particulates in the air,” Mr Kerr said.

“Having continuous access to accurate scientific data on air quality helps the Incident Controller to make better informed decisions on actions to ensure the wellbeing of members of the public, firefighters and other personnel in the area.”

The many local and state government agencies continue to work collaboratively together, including CFA, Forest Fire Management Victoria, Environment Protection Authority, Victoria Police, Agriculture Victoria, and the Corangamite Shire, to plan the next stage of the emergency response.
