EPA investigation into Dandenong Creek pollution continues

21 May 2018

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) continues to work with Melbourne Water, Knox City Council and community group First Friends of Dandenong Creek to investigate a pollution incident in Dandenong Creek.

EPA officers are currently working to identify the source of the pollution and have visited a number of potential discharge sites today.

EPA advises the community and any of their pets to avoid contact with the creek until further notice.

Since November 2017, EPA has been investigating ongoing pollution reports at Dandenong Creek, most relating to foamy water in and around the creek.

In response to pollution reports, EPA has conducted 24 inspections in Bayswater, Ferntree Gully and the surrounding area where drainage leads from these sites to Dandenong Creek. From these inspections, EPA has issued three remedial notices to premises that have the potential to discharge contaminants to stormwater.

EPA urges members of the public to continue to report suspected pollution to the EPA on 1300 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC) or at www.epa.vic.gov.au
