A community meeting in Stawell on September 26 heard how the Statewide Recycling Services (SRS) site at Pomonal Road, Stawell, has been brought back in to compliance with its licence.
Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has been working with SRS following several licence breaches that had brought the operation into non-compliance.
EPA had been actively assessing the site and issued notices around non-compliance matters including the relocation of overfill, failure to adequately rehabilitate landfill cells, and allowing litter to escape the boundaries of the premise.
EPA issued a show cause notice on 13 April 2018 and was able to extend the original 30 July deadline as SRS demonstrated it was making substantial progress towards a return to compliance.
Further inspections have been conducted throughout the extension period which ended on 14 September 2018.
EPA is pleased that SRS has been able to address the issues identified through the notices and has brought the operation back into compliance. Ongoing monitoring will occur to ensure SRS adheres to its licence conditions.
